Hows it going every one mick29 here Our law here in South Australia is you can ride any power assisted bike as long as its under 200w of power Ive been riding my bike for 3 years back and foreward to work its a standard 48cc chinesse motor never been pulled over but lately the police are really clamping down on bikes with motors if you get caught is a $900 fine the only way is to get the motor detuned to 200w no one wants to pay that kind of fine Has any of you guys bought a 200w motor or had theirs detuned im just wondering how slow it would be? thanks mick29

Hi Mick
memo from Victoria, we have the same law here.I have never been pulled up on my 48cc bike and many here are riding 80cc bikes. Have a look at rocksolid engines site they sell 200watt motors
Cheers meno .

Gday Mick, the best way to reduce it to 200watts is by restricting the intake flow. Basically its going to be about 10% of the normal power but hey, look at this way youll be saving even more fuel :o

Just ride your bikes? And when you see the fuzz turn the motor off? That's what i have been doing..

And the law is worse here in singapore.. $2,000 Fine.. And they'll confiscate ya bike..

I'll be interested to see what the outcome of this is for sure! I'm in SA as well and have not been hasseled yet but its probably only a matter of time. Especially when I am sometimes doing 60kmh past police.

Hi all does anyone own a certified 200w 2 stroke motor they want to sell, got pulled by the police because i was'nt 'peddling' up a hill i have to go to court on 1st june. If anyone can help it will be much appriciated.I will pay good money even if it does'nt run.

The conversion is (approximately) 746 Watts = 1 horsepower
Then 200 watts would = 0.268 horsepower
I wonder if you can find a gas motor that small
They do make model airplane motors that are small,im not sure one that small will push a bike.
They sell 200watt electric motors and bikes.

Maybe you could make a sticker or metal plate that says 200watts and put that on your motor in large numbers.

My small 48cc 2-stroke has 1.95hp+

Hello guys, I've started a thread under "Motorized Bicycle General Discussion" I need some help on the 200w subject. if some of you guys could voice your oppinion that would be great, thanks.

Rock Solid Engines is the only supplier in Australia that I know that sells 200w engines as ZBox thinks 200w is not possible nor will it have the power to carry you, but I say, they are they a bunch of idiots because I used to have the 200w engine from Rock Solid and it has guts to take you.

They've rated it at 20km/h, I don't know how fast I've personally reached, but anywhere from 20-25km/h is my guess; 15km/h maximum, once you have it all set.

50cc 200 Watt Engine Kit

I live in the ACT. Local law says 200watts here. However, if you can prove that your bike can only produce 200watts via a certification engineer or dyno run like they do with the rock solid kit, you will be ok. Then get an engine plate made up saying 200watts with the manufacturer name on it.

You could either limit the amount of air going into the engine with a smaller intake gasket or re-jetting the carb during testing.

yes im also looking to get mine detuned, only bugger is Rocksolid has moved to QLD, so will have to pack and ship to and back to adelaide, they used to be 5 mins from me, lol, or they have an electric front wheel kit (200watts) for around $450, though im yet to see a good stealth setup, dont like the carrier setup over the rear wheel, if i could mount all the hardware in the frame, like the engine is, and possible make a custom cover, i'd consider it, at least it would be quiet then, so take that attraction away from the cops, and you could fake the pedalling, and it has the "200watts" stamped on the hub.

hey mick29, just wondering how your motor went, no it has been detuned, thinking about doing the same, just wondering what its like now,

cheers dan
