Would this work as a chain tensioner?

New Bike Alloy Chain Tensioner Gold - eBay Bicycle Parts, Cycling, Outdoor Sports, Sporting Goods. (end time 16-Jun-10 05:56:16 AEST)

The one that came with mine slowly comes loose, no matter how tight. I've replaced the bolts and stuff, made sure it's not a slippery surface and everything. Unless someone knows of another one that will ship to Australia.

The only problem with those are they either require making them, or drilling into the bike. I don't have the tools/materials to make one out of nothing.

I'll contact them. They only have the basic ones (except better quality). I'll ask them if they can build some better ones or somethin.

There are only twp ways I can imagine that would definitely keep the chain tensioner solidly mounted.

One is to have a slotted bracket welded to the frame stay, then bolt on a skateboard wheel. .weld

The other is to bolt on a simple 10" flat metal bar across the frame and seat stay. Then bolt on the skateboard wheel.

Either way would guarantee that the tensioning assembly would NEVER lean into the wheelspokes.

Hi Alex, our standard chain tensioner look the same but the thickness of the
metal is a lot more, we do however custom machine rear sprockets for
clients, if your in Adelaide you are more than welcome to visit our machine
shop, they can be manufactured from billet aluminium or steel to be more
cost effective, there are many components that are not on our web as yet
that we manufacturer.

If the rear chain tensioner is installed correctly & in plane with the chain
& most importantly set at the right distance from the rear sprocket they
work well, usually if they move down the tension is to great (force), we
suggest always leave about 20mm free play to the top run of the chain.

This came from rock solid engines. So maybe I should hook up one of there's and if I do have problems, bolt it down.
