I got hit by a car when I was a teenager, and didn't press charges because the driver paid my medical bills and seemed genuinely sorry. But the cops seemed mad about it, and I think the state busted him for DUI/DWI anyway. Not pressing the charge when you have an option, is like admitting fault, and might even work against you.
