First build, hopefully fast.

I have a lot of access to carbon parts, so yes it wil probably have quite a few bits on it at Bonneville. It is weighing around 45lbs right now though so I'm not going to go too crazy with it. I also don't know how tech will react so I plan to take normal parts also. As far as a female rider, no offence but that makes it an unlevel playing field. Pretty much every motorcycle contest where females apply themselves they dominate. They have more narrow shoulders and overall are lighter and smaller by average. So for now I want to set a male record.

Ha ha ha very true. I have no problem with a girl having faster land speed records, I just feel this would be similar to motorcycle drag racing where girls have such a distinct advantage they should have their own record and trophy. On the top fuel drag bikes the girls shape and narrow shoulders were such a huge advantage none of the guys stood a chance.

Idk about you, but this new generation of males aren't anywhere near as stocky and tall as previous generations, I've seen plenty of guys who have small builds.

Same theory, but, technically they're men.

Quit busting my bubble ha ha. I'm a racer at heart and if i'm not winning i'm coming up with legitimate sounding excuses. There was a 16 year old girl racing superbike in our division years ago, and I was close to two of her in weight and size. I was lucky and never went against her directly but my teammate did. She beat him every heat lol he said it was like racing gainst a remote control motorcycle, he couldn't draft her and when he could over ride into a corner and get in front of her she could out accelerate him at every exit. NOT FAIR!!!! ha ha ha ha ha

The old trusty Garmin Edge 305. I will figure out how to get a film clip with the GPS visible. Accelerated past 40 today and had a touch more but was not in a good place for it. I am going to order at least a 36 tooth next check, I know this thing is really winding out with the 44 tooth and I don't want to throw the connecting rod out on the street just yet.

Haha .... I used to do the same thing racing the pocketbikes 10 years ago by putting my then 8 year old son on it and letting him drag race against my friends, he would totally dominate since he weighed over 100lb less than everyone else... the guys didn't catch nonnative first why I was letting him do all the drag racing at first but it didn't take long before they figured it out and wanted me on the bike. He still dominated against most the other kids tho since he was still 20 lb or more lighter than most of them at the time. Now he's 19 and bigger than me but still quite a bit lighter. I'm sure he could get my bike over 43mph if the engine isn't maxing out its rpm on the street. Right now with the 44 tooth sprocket it feels like there's little or no load on the engine at 42 mph so there may not even be a difference.
if I was going for a speed record I would use as many aerodynamic nods as I could get away with for the class like those wheel discs to cover the spokes, the shortest bars I could still ride with, the thinnest wheels and tires, and knife edging the leading and trailing edges of al the frame and fork parts that face the wind, then finding a lightweight and slim rider to go for the record. Weight does factor in but aerodynamics will begin to factor in more and more is speed increases

I set up a lot of time trial bikes in the bicycle industry so plan to use all those little tricks. Your right at 40 it does not feel like wind resistance at all yet, just RPM. The rules in one of the classes says your hands have to be 10 inches apart on a non stream liner so I am going to set the grips up there then put an additional place to hold inside on the left. We do it on the road bikes for solo break aways and it works well.

You have got a lot to do yet.

Current record in 51cc to 100cc A Gas is 99.816 mph

You still need to address 7.B.8 , 7.B.19 , 7.B.22 , 7.B.23

You do have a rule book right? You will have to run under 7.G, and you will need to address the bullet points under that heading.

Best of luck

It depends on the sanctioning body. In the Bub speed trials they have a run what you brung and i think the record is at 54 where i would fit in. The board tracker guys have a record in one of the other events at 73 and change. I think the bike would hit between 70 and 80 on asphalt now with my smaller rider and the right gearing. I have been thru a couple of the rule books and plan to contact the different sanctioning bodies to see who will let us run and what class and start building from there. I have spent the last few daysstudying fuel blends that I could probably make a bunch of power with but that limits the classes again. Fun fun, I am pretty hooked on the small displacement classes and will find one that I can hopefully break a record in. Then start building a streamliner?

I'm talking to a local frame builder I know in the next couple weeks. We may end up doing our own frame in the end. He built a Ducati powered bike that passed AMA tech so we might go that route also. For the first year as long as we can get legal and go hold it wide open on the salt it will be a success either way.

Sounds like an engine upgrade might be in order here... Maybe build a frame that could cradle a 60cc Denardis engine that should make about 15hp or so and closer to 20hp with the big bore kit... It's a little pricy but that should get you closer to a record, So far the fastest China Girl based engine has only hit just over 60mph using a Malossi jug and a longer rod, this one is claimed to be around 18hp by the builder and it appears to be geared for acceleration so maybe you could do an engine similar to this... http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2hyvs6e&s=8 ... And here's a short clip of it in action... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOK9DsKZ_KQ ... I have no idea if it's making a full 18hp, my guess is 14 to 15 but by the way it's ripping in the vid we do know it's at least Fast...

Thats a trick looking motor for sure. Running the AMA samctioning out there might not be best at first. I raced ASMA middleweight superbike a few seasons and thats why I am trying to find a good class to run the China girl in. This for me is as much the journey as the goal and I am enchanted somewhat by this little 66cc motor. Maybe the class i fit the best has a 99mph record and I have no chance of getting near it. But for my first trip to the salt it will make a great story that we went out there with a $150 motor and a bunch of work and went 63 or 72 or 47mph who knows. It is already a lot of fun building, testing and trying. I will learn and if we love it we will build a serious record contender the next year.

This is my first time building one of these and doing all the mechanical myself. I am quite suprised that this little motor I ported already has seen 43mph with the stock parts and 44tooth sprocket after all my porting and set up. I keep having a lot of fun and now will start trying to get it to turn some tall gearing. I will keep posting, you all have been great help and this forum has added a lot to the enjoyment of the whole thing. Thanks again everybody for letting me be a part of things on here.

Yeah fast is nice but you want a centrifugal clutch on it in theory I've got one but yet to place it so I can't reply to it's performance capability some say it works well on your setup it could be perfect but the clutch it turns should likely be locked to the pressure plate I yet to hear anyone installing one correctly at that say no more..

That motor in the video sounds very healthy. I want to take the best China girl I can to Boneville even though it's far from the best I just love the little motor for some reason. If sponsors and budget came around in time this year I would probably try to put together a ground up bike for the special construction class with the KTM 50 clone on the Dax website. I ultimately want to go after the 50cc records more than any but they are pretty high already.

Bert Rod has built quite a few 60+ mph China Girls, he balances his own cranks, makes his own heads ect. He's using skyhawk frames too, an aero rider and frame would blow away competition
