We just alike!!

I am only recently into this hobby, and I am now up to 5, yes, count them 5, excellent condition, OCC Stingrays. One is presently motored.

I am picking up 2 tomorrow that I understand are in pretty decent shape, but mostly for parts (wheels tires, etc).

Also, I am looking at what I think is an XL OCC next week if they still have it when I travel to that part of the state then.

Getting ready to build up one my OCC's into a real nice setup. The one motored I have is kinda half-***ed, and I want to do it right. I have Barry Mount, and need to get exhaust, sprocket adapter, and PK engine kit.

Oh, I am 5'11" and 230 lbs.. eery!!.. but I don't have any cool classic cars ;)

Wife is getting a little mad at my new hobby about right now!

Will, It looks like you found a couple with front brakes. Those are pretty rare. They usually had front pegs on the front fork or no front brakes. The ones that have the front rider pegs are pretty easy to adapt to front brakes. You can remove the pegs and use the bottom set of holes for your V brake mounting bolts.
Love the Camaros, wish I would have kept my 69 big block car.

Question about your lights

Hey, I like your light setup you got.

What kind of front headlight is that? does it work off your white wire?, or, are you going to have a battery pak?

It appears I will be getting an XL OCC, and I am liking the way you are building yours up. Are you going to install mirror(s), and/or turn signals? What are you using for a speedo? My wireless bell speedo is off the charts and reads 42, then 17, then 31, then 3, etc.. even when I am at the same speed.

Looks good man.. .keep us updated, and thanks!

i bought a 6volt generator kit that comes with lights and a roller gen i will not use,i plan to hook the lights to the white wire,if that doesnt work i will add a 6volt battery..lights are 6watts or less and i bought the kit off ebay for 30bucks or so new.i have chrome tear drop mirrors on the way and the speedo came from target also a wireless one,i hope its accurate...i would like to have spoiler forks on it if i can find some.

thanks for the compliments.

retmachinist, the black widow bike has pegs and frontbrakes, never seen one like that before.

Hey guy,

I noticed your engine has the pull starter.

Are you having a problem with the pedals clearing the pull starter?

Did you buy and extended crank?

I now have the EXACT same XL chopper as yours and will be starting my build. You said you used the barry mount, which I have purchased as well. The barry mount is custom designed for the frame, so maybe it is lucky and the pedals clear the pull start.

I would like a pull start on my engine.

Have you thought about the performance carb that is out there? It is about 50 bux or so. I would think that for a big guy like you (and me), it could help. What tooth count sprocket did you order with your maniac mount? I am getting ready to order mine.

I am using you for inspiration.. hope you dont mind!

if you mount the barrymount all the way to the seatpost the factory cranks will clear the pull start..i swapped to a set of DK ironcross pedal that gave a little more clearence as well.the barry pipe was to loud for me so i cut it shorter and welded the kit muffler onto the end of it.i ordered the 36t sprocket..pirate has them in stock..i also ordered a 40t sprocket in case the 36 is to high geared..i dont want to pedal much if any.should have my hub this week so i plan to take a ride this weekend to see how it runs..it was nice to be able to start it with the rope cord this week.

me inspiration?i am a beginner in this so we may be helping each other before its over with.LOL

figured i would update my thread..i have the bike rideable now ..with a 36t sprocket it will run about 20mph..only problems i have had are,1.the chopperus seat frame is to weak and bent all up so i mounted the seat to the factory seatpost frame..much stouter for sure.2.headlight doesnt work for crap, tail light is nice and bright, battery powered bullet on the way.3.a little slack got in the chain and it broke the back brakes... i ordered avid disc brakes for the front and rear today so i will fab up some mounts.4.that little front tire is rough riding so i am going to swap to a wider wheel and tire that has a disc brake hub.5,the barry pipe was way to loud so i welded the factory muffler to the barry pipe.here are a few pics.

well i started the disc brake upgrade this and finished the rear disc today and it works real good..ordered new forks with billet trees and a disc brake mount,2 1/2 front wheel and a 3inch wide tire..here is a pic of the rear brake..had to use a large disc to clear the spokes so i made one from a 10inch saw blade and i used a manic hub adapter.

Disk Brakes

I like what you have done with the disk brakes on the back. What did you use for a mount to mount the caliper too? Is this a kit? How are you doing the front? I see you ordered a new fork and new wheels. on the back you used a maniac adapter and then you modded a saw blade, looks real cool. Do you have a problem clearing the freewheel?

Please more details on your mounting. I like the ideas you have come up with. Your build is going to be primo when done.

Good job!

Your build is coming together nicely. The billet, (straight), trees will make it handle much better. Cool set-up for the disc brake...The saw blade is a good choice for a brake rotor. It will last forever.

Our belt drive failed on the Occ...there was just too much torque applied to the belt when bump starting. DV was able to ride it several times, and it was smooth...but the bump starting was too much for it.

The belt set-up is rated for 12H.P.; but the instantaneous torque required to get the engine turning over was just too much. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...
