HI everyone. I'm starting my build.

First off, I'm a noob at putting motors on bikes, so bear with me. I used to tinker with bikes all the time before I started messing with cars, so the bikes themselves are not new to me.

I'm using an '80's Schwinn World road bike I got for free, and an air cooled snow blower engine out of the a snow blower I got for free also. I'm trying to use as many old bike parts as I can in this build, and fab up whatever I need to. Tonight I think I'm going to get started on my engine mounts, so I will take some pics of the bike and the engine and what not. I plan on using some sort of jackshaft and using the inner sprocket on the crank to drive the rear wheel so I still have use of 5 speeds.

Stay tuned!

I'm trying to do things as simply as possible on this bike, so I have an idea for the drive. I'm planning on using a jack shaft of some sort, and the engine side of the drive is most likely going to be a belt system with a cable controlled tensioner (the "clutch") so I can let it run while its sitting still.

Then I'm going to do a chain drive to the sprocket on the crank on the other end of the jackshaft. I'm hoping it will come together as things go on. I'm just taking it one step at a time.

Here are a few pictures of what I did tonight.

Those are great motors but width is a problem. Where to put the engine and not collide with your body parts is another issue, a frame stretch would do it though.

I guess we'll see what kinds of issues I run into along the way. I'll probably try to isolate my mounts with some rubber and use some tubing or something to help distribute the load a little better.

yes width is the problem i"m planing on using a beach cruser like the panama jack and rear mounting the engine on the luggage rack for the drive i am going with a cvt but hard finding one cheap. or one less than 175.00 .

hey guys, sorry for the lack of activity here. I've been spending all my time on ratrodbikes.com I think I've been bitten by the rat rod bug, so we'll see what that turns out. maybe possible motorizing one of the rats that are sure to come from all this. Until then I think this thread can just fall down the page. I will be back with something else to motorize in the future.

Also I think I could come up with a more ideal bike to do this to. As someone mentioned before the thin tubing on the frame is probably less than ideal to bolt a heavy motor to and go 33 mph without suspension. I'll probably end up using some kind of cruiser frame like the majority of you guys. I also like the look of the motorized cruisers too, so until something comes out of this: Have fun riding!
