Idle problems

I have run into a problem and hopefully someone here can give me some ideas.

I had to make a modification be able to mount the carb (as seen in the pictures). I am wondering if this is causing my problem.

Fully choked it will idle (if a bit high) but if you give it any gas it will flood out. With the choke al the way down it will not idle, but the throttle is responsive and it runs great.

I have tried lots of variations of adjusting the idle and the choke with limited success.

I thought my modifications were letting in air hence the tape around the joints, but no change.

Is there anything you can think of that will let it idle AND drive? Do you have any ideas on any variations on how to mount the carb?

I played with the idle for about 4 hours today without much sucess.

I found a sweet spot where it would idle and the throttle would not flood the engine with every twist, but the responce was diferent when riding.

What worked well sitting still flooded the engine when riding.

What position is the clip on the needle inside the carb? Try raising it a notch and trying that........

You must have an air leak. Spray carb cleaner around your connections while engine is running to locate Air leaks. Fix when found.. Thanks. Enjoy the ride..

You have an air leak, plain and simple.

I doubt the tape job is working. Need better sealing. Braze it.

From what I can see in your pictures try cutting the copper pipe so that you dont have a double curve, cut it so that the carb is mounted facing the side of the bike. And Pablo is right about the air leak. Make sure your copper pipe is completly sealed.

what they all said. If you have access to a propane torch, you can silver solder the copper (just like for plumbing). That or you can use that muffler repair goo you can get at the auto store.

You should be able to have an idle with the choke completely off., and you don't want to be riding around with it on at all.
