Default Exahust Fell

Hey fellow MB'ers ive been riding for 2 weeks, like 3 nights ago i was coming back from Old San Juan, and all of the sudden something fell....the muffler cover fell! it was super hot, so hot it deformed. The MB sounds like a Harley now! lol

well the next day i put my muffler on my MB's bascket and went to the mechanic.....my muffler fell again, this time from the bascket... getting to the mechanic i noticed the muffler was missing, i retraced myself and found the muffler, squashed like a pancake! it sort of funny...

just oredered a new one, no problem...

the question: Is it ok to use my MB with the open muffler?...it runs harder now, sounds too much, but works.j

can i ride for 2 weeks, would this damage my HT?

Wow, those welds look like something I did!

I wouldn't run it very long like that. It shouldn't
get that hot either, I think you are running too lean.

too lean? what do you mean?

it gets super hot! red hot!
i visualy make the gas oil mix...i get the 1 gallon formula and simply add more than what the little bottle says. thought that would mean im on the rich side of things...maybe im super misinformed about that.

I meant the gas to air ratio. Try richening the carb by moving the C clip down one notch on the needle.

Too much oil will not help, and in fact makes the fuel to air ratio leaner.

I'm with Joe on this one, a lean air/fuel ratio will burn hot. Think of a cutting torch if you can. The more air you give the mixture , the hotter the flame gets.
The pin he is talking about is inside the carb and you can get to it by unscrewing the part that the cable goes through and into the carb. You will see a tiny cir-clip that is holding the long needle hanging off the bottom of the slider very close to where the throttle cable ends. You will also notice about 5 grooves that you have a choice of usingand like Joe says, move the clip down a notch or two.
As for your description of the carb parts, the button is called "a tickler'. When you push it down it allows extra gas to enter the carb for cold starting. The screw with the spring is your idle as you say and the lever on the right side is the choke/up for cold starts and down is off.
Look for "carburetor installation" on this link and you will see it in pics.

look here for help on the carb.
Motorized Bicycle Carburetor install and rebuild
permalink #16 has info on the needle to make it a little more rich put the clip toward the pointed end to lean it out put the clip to the fat end. wot(wide open throttle is controlled by the main jet and if you look I show the main jet and the stock size to make it more rich you make the hole bigger to lean it out make it smaller. permalink #6
I wouldn't run the bike with the exhaust off if nothing else it will make the neighbors mad.
hope that will help. you might be able to fix your pipe with a short piece of tail pipe/ remake your exhaust that got smashed. If you have a welder or a welder friend with a wire feed or an oxygen/acetylene welder.
You have a very long intake how does it work for you?

thanx for the tips guys...im gonna open the carb and see the slot were the long pin is. how can i determin that my changes are working? richer or leaner?

as for the intake tube...i cant really compare to anything, since this is my first build, and the intake had to be made to fit the bike...but i bet the curve would help the mixture go faster....

ok heres a goodone:

when i stop at a light and pull the clutch to iddle should the motor accelerate a lot? or decelerate slowly?
