Exclamation Motorcycle Cannonball Race!

just stumbled upon this:Motorcycle Cannonball Coast To Coast Vintage Motorcycle Race

it's a cross country race for pre-1916 motorcycles. a "pre-16" is a motorcycle with pedals. after 1916, most of the pedals were gone.

i'd love to enter this, but i don't think crappy, brand new chinee motors are allowed...

I like the idea of a cannonball run race but i dont like the rules for entry.
A real Cannon ball run race would have no rules and have a large prize waiting for the winner.

To have 100 year old bikes and there owners even consider riding cross country is amazing.
Having day stages just lets spectators actually see and appreciate these things,
you now keeping them within a 200 mile pack instead of strung along 3 or 4 states.
As well, most of these guys will probably have mechanic crews workin all night fixing them!

Also look at a Jeff Decker sculpture, (the trophy)
it's not money but its not chump change.

We were thinking of driving east to check out the actual start/racing,
just cause santa monica will probably be more of a parade/party,
and we'd probably beat them there anyway.

TP

They think they're gonna do that in 12 days?

I love the rules....anything goes as long as you use the original engine, which may have all the parts replaced twice.

Not a race, but an interesting gathering of rich eccentrics...as if they need another $$$$$$hobby.

Be sure to read the story of George in the history section of the link to the cannonball. This is a fascinating report. Across the country in 1903 on what looks like a china kit. Insane but fascinating!

Official Website of The George A. Wyman Centennial Run Project of 2003

he did a very cool post from George's words as well
