Chain rubs seat stay

Okay here is the problem...I recently installed a new 26X 2.125 wheel on my bike.

When I first installed it the sprockets did not line up and the chain rubbed the tire.

So all I did was flip the rear sprocket over and now the sprockets track much better and no tire/chain rub.

But now the chain rubs the seat stay....so I flipped the sprocket back over and spaced it out little by little until the sprockets lines up. But by the time I got it spaced out it is in the same spot as if I had flipped the sprocket over.

So I am kinda of stuck on what to do next?

The clamp you see is the mount for my chain guard but even with that removed it still rubs the seat stay.





Any body got any ideals of what I could try next?

I had that same problem when I used a Schwinn Varsity frame. What I did was to add a couple washers to the inside to spread the frame out a little. Short of using a smaller sprocket or smaller width tires, that is what worked for me.

Use single speed bicycle chain.

Grind the front sprocket to take the 1/8th chain.

The rear should be fine.

Another possible fix is to re adjust the cones such that the wheel is moved over inside the
existing wheel stays (that would get the chain off the frame)...

Well Thanks guys....only took me a few minutes.

I went with Reds advice and added a couple of washers....worked great. And here I was all worried about having to do some heavy mod to get this wheel to work.

fairracing31, your a genius, I have been having this probem and my dumb A** was gonna take a hammer and smash the bar down a little (hammer mechanic lives) now I can take all the credit and look like a genius! thanks buddy!

p.s. my other idea was to cut the section away and weld in a u bend --\_/-- damn im stupid!
