Super Spoilers Part 1

Hey Guys,

I'm working on the Ultimate Spoiler build. I have 2, one customer has 4, another has 1, and another in Newfoundland has 2. 9 total.

They will be 3-speed, gear belt drive, and retain all of the original Spoiler Flare. The design idea is to make this set-up look factory built. A 5, or 8 speed is optional, but I think 3 is plenty.

The third photo shows a variety of Browning gearbelts for design layout, the 7075-T8 Aluminum cog material, The Spoiler 6061-T6 Aluminum Cog adapters, and 2 6061-T6 Aluminum sprocket adapters that are going to a chain drive customer.

The fourth photo shows the Spoiler rear wheel set-up, and an S-RAM I-Motion 3-speed hub mounted in a steel bracket.

The fifth photo shows the cog adapter mounted to the Spoiler rear wheel.

The first photo is another shot of the Cog material. Notice that the smallest diameter in the rear is a different color...it is steel, and will be used at the engine to replace the factory sprocket.

I spent quite a bit of time looking through the engineering data for various gear belt drive set-ups, and an even more ridiculous amount of time finding a suitable supplier. This will use a 3/8" pitch 1/2" wide belt.

The manufactured Cogs would have had to be highly modified, so I chose to buy 8" lengths of Cog material and make my own. The rings are the flanges that prevent the belt from walking off the cog.

The second photo shows the completed Cog assembly for the rear wheel. It's a perfect fit to the wheel.

The third photo shows the final rear wheel assembly.

The fourth is looking down on the Cog, rotor. Notice that the original hardware has not been disturbed. Bolt it on and done!

The fifth photo shows the S-Ram tie wrapped to the frame for reference. The next step is to machine the Aluminum cogs for the S-Ram, and frame mount that will hold the steel S-Ram mount that has already been made.

This set-up will totally freewheel. I plan on doing a kickstart on the clutch side.

The idea for a new and improved engine came from the spoiler Build.

I will be putting up a post for final call on this run of engines in a few days. I've got the 3D CAD work done, but I need to explode it, and explain what's going on.

Let me be the first guy to say that I believe you will go down in history as one of the most creative pioneers in MB. Sort of a Einstein of the beginning of the evolution of things to come. Jim those are going to be some sweet looking, and sweet riding bikes! I am afraid if you cruise down by the beach you will be swamped with orders. That could be a good thing in this economy. You may have found the perfect "nitch" there. I have a friend that has been wanting me to build him a bike but he wants something more like that. I may just stee him your way. Great Work.

The cutters arrived yesterday...thanks so much! I'll put some cash in with your sprocket adapters, which are the two sitting on the end of the bench in the photo above.

The spoilers are neat bikes. I didn't even ride the first one I bought until I got back to the shop. I figured they would be really awkward to ride, I was surprised, they aren't that bad.

Karen, my girl, got on the thing right after I did and had no problem either. I told her she looked cool riding it, she said I couldn't have it back so we went looking for another and now we have two.

I bought these for advertising purposes...rides down on Clearwater beach...so the idea was to make them pop with WOW factor. I hope you are right...there does seem to be a lot of interest in custom builds. It's the beauty of the machine shop...anything a customer can dream up can happen.

If you have a customer up your way that wants one of these I'll be glad to help. I can send you parts, or prints for the non-cnc stuff so you can make them there.

On that note...If you would like to offer sprocket adapters in your area, I can do the CNC work and sell them to you cheap. You would need to face the backside, bore them, add the cross bolt holes and c'bores, drill and tap the other half, and tap the tapered islands.

Hey Jim have you ever heard of that free google download called sketchup? Well I was turned onto it by a friend of mine, and he has created a monster! I have all these different ideas, and have been building models on it, but I don't have that big cream colored monster to tell what to do! Was wondering if I was to shoot ya the sketchup files that I have created, would you be interested in telling that monster to spit em out for me?
