Well would you know it, Five years and 4,000 miles I never used a fuel filter. Never had a problem, about two hundred miles ago I decided to put one on.
Tonight after work I filled my tank up so I would not forget in the morning before work. I went to safeway to get a few thing's, as I was leaving the Safeway parking lot waiting for traffic to clear so I could go. All of a sudden my motor stopped. I looked down and fuel just pouring out of the carb.
I pulled off to the side and shut the fuel off, used a screwdriver handle and tapped the fuel bowl trying to stop the fuel. That worked, turn the fuel back on waited a minute or two to make sure it wasn't going to leak.
So I fired her back up and started my way back home, did not get very far before it flooded again and would not run. Did the same thing, got about half a mile before it happened again.
So this time I just pedal my butt home. Got home pulled carb off and sure enough some junk in the carb. No big deal, cleaned it up and re-installed the carb.
Went to take a spin to make sure it was working right. Would not start...I noticed their was no fuel in the fuel line. I opened the tank, completely empty!
Re-filled the tank...it fired right up but you should have seen the fuel coming out the muffler. It dumped a entire tank in the motor.
So it got me wondering what's the best way to check a muffler if it's plugged?? Someone made a post on cleaning the muffler but I could not find it.
My muffler does not seem to be plugged, I'm using compressed air to blow threw it and seem's to flow fine. But this does not seem like a good way to check it.
