to have an oily air filter? Well, mine is oily. I can't tell if its backflow from the carb or splash coming up from my chain!

If you are running very rich, your filter can get very oily. If your filter gets oily, it will make your engine run very rich.

wash it out with soap and water put back on without oiling it even if its damp with water it will run you'll dry it out quicker if you ride it around a little bit. as you run these engines fuel will pulse out of the carb and collect in the filter eventually oiling up the filter.

I just spray mine with carb cleaner and wring it out.

Man, carb cleaner does everything. I use it for so many different things.

Including cause tumors of the liver and kidneys, use nitrile gloves at the least when you use it.
