| | Making My Bike Legal Yesterday I had a big mess up with my bike and I finally got everything back up and working a few hours ago. I did a little test run up and down the street and the neighbor across the street had a problem with that. She allows her grandkid to drive her bike up and down the street and instead of worrying about giant cars hitting her she was concerned with me. She came over to my house and started yelling at me so I started yelling back.
She slapped me in the face because I guess she's thought I should just sit there and let her yell at me and expect me not to yell back. I called the cops on her, the cops were of no use, they basically said if they give her a ticket they'll give me a ticket because my voice is louder than hers and when she came on my property I started yelling.
Sounds like a bunch of bull****. What was I supposed to do? I told her to get off my property and she refused. Now the cops are giving me a hard time about my bike, the cop was like I could write you 4 or 5 tickets, blah blah blah about not having the bike registered and all that. Anyway I want to get everything legal, so what should I do, I think all I need to do is get a headlight and some blinkers, after that I just go to the DMV and they'll want to check my bike out or something?
I just don't believe this lady can get away with slapping me, she came on my property and I told her to get off, she refused to leave and I started yelling at her to leave. Yeah I was loud but I don't think that deserves getting hit in the face. I know for a fact if I hit her back I'd be arrested. I'm really pissed off about this because I did nothing wrong.
I was planning on making my bike legal anyway just wasn't to eager to get going on it cause the cops around her haven't given me a hard time at all, I zipped past a bunch of cops in the short time I had my bike and not one of them ever got on my tail and pulled me over. |

i would call your dmv and ask them if you can register it and what the requirements are, because it changes from state to state, some just want $7 so they can give you a number, and other want more, if your lucky like me your dmv will just tell you to ride it and not worry about registering it.
good luck.

Yeah but the cop I was talking to was sorta of ignorant. I actually got my camera and started filming him because what he was saying just didn't sound right.
Anyway the DMV is only a block away from my house so I'll go and check it out tomorrow. Hopefully they can give me something to stick on my bike so if any cops decide to give me a hard time I can tell them where to go. |

I almost burst out laughing while a cop spent 15 minutes trying to figure out something wrong with my bike legally so he could hold me, it was funny because i knew he couldn't. but he did call another cop to chase me down ofter he let me go to see if i would resist being pulled over, and to see if he could figure anything out. i even gave them my number in case they did... they never called... lol
that sounds like a good idea. it might cost you, but it would be worth making it legal just to own the cops.

happy trails

The stuff about the bike I really don't care, I knew I was going to have to get lights on it and stuff to make it legal, the thing that bothers me is this lady got away with slapping me in my face and the cop says I'm the aggressor because I have a loud voice and got louder when she refused to leave my property. The cop said if he gives her a ticket he'll have to give me a ticket and I don't think yelling at a trespasser is something that warrants me getting a ticket.
After I called the cops the lady realized she messed up and was sitting her fat ass on my neighbors lawn, I told her she's setting a great example for her grandkid and she said something like "So are you." Um lady she's not my grandkid and I didn't slap you in the face because I didn't like the words coming out of your mouth. There are some absolutely worthless people in this world.

| | Re: Making My Bike Legal Best bet is to get to know your local LEOs. I know every one that patrols around this area by name and even have one's cell number. When I spoke to him about my bike his exact words were "The law about 'mopeds' is so vague that no one even checks anymore."
Funny thing is around here a "moped" has to have a head light, tail light, turn signals, brake light, horn, be under 50cc and go less then 30 mph. The other day I was behind a guy on a scooter with a moped sticker on the fender, I was doing 35 in my truck and he was pulling away at a pretty good clip. |

I've been driving past the police station with no worries, the cops seemed cool until I talked to this one. Oh well I'll do whatever I have to do. |

happy trails | Agree 100% here. I've found in all my dealings with police over the years that the coolest head wins. Make the other person look like the raving lunatic and you got it made. lol
Even works with judges. Faught a ticket years ago and I just calmly stated my side of the story while the PO stammered, referred to his notes and changed his story. Judge let me off and chewed the officer a new one in front of the whole court, said he needed lessons in professionalism. I could barely contain myself but after the courtroom door closed behind me I let out a "WHOO HOOO!" that I know everyone inside heard. |
