Default internal geared hub????? sturmey AW

I have an 1971 sturmey archer AW 3 speed hub w/o coaster brake.

Does anybody know how well this hub does on a motorized bike?

It be helpful to know before I rebuild the wheel and buy the cable and shifter.
I've been looking everywhere for some info...hoping somebody knows.

Thanks Kev

I don't have any personal info, but I was planning to build a bike with a 3 speed internal hub and jackshaft, (since the jackshaft manufacturer says it will work). I'd contact "sick bike parts" and see what they say.

I've heard that the 3-speeds have an unfortunate tendency to disintegrate on MB's. They just can't handle the sustained speeds. I know Roland from Spooky Tooth blew one up at the Death race this year although that was under race conditions.

Is Roland a member here? I'd like to hear his opinion on this. Frankly, nothing is going to last forever, but race conditions usually make a big difference.

Roland is a member here but is usually so busy he very rarely logs on.
