Default Gas Mileage

My wife came to me today and asked me what the mileage of one of my Motored bikes would be? We payed 3.74.09 for gas today, I wonder if that had any influence on the reason she asked the mileage. I told her that "I think I could get about 150 Mi. to the gallon if I tried", OH she exclaimed, and left it at that. Now if she asks me to start one up for her to go to work, I will get a picture to post up here. I don't think she has any business on a motor bike, for that matter nether should I, but that is another thing. If enough of the cars were off the road I think I would let her, but not with the (NUT'S) in my town. I wonder how many of you are using your bikes for every day? The traffic for me is the biggest hang up. Well have fun, Dave

Last fall before the weather got cold I was riding my bike back and forth to work nearly everyday. I had to stop when winter got here. I think I'm going to start riding it again as soon as we get a little warmer weather. I live in a small town so traffic is not an issue. Traffic cops are though. I think I'll just ride on the back roads to work and if I see a cop I'll just act like I'm peddaling.

I rode nearly 100 miles on a tank a couple of times....I did coast down all the hills I could and never went faster than a "cruise"- maybe 60% max rpm.

So I say at least 150 mpg.

As a side comment, I've only had a problem once with a motorized bike/traffic. It was two drunk boneheads in a van towing a boat and they screamed stuff out the window and purposely cut me off....I think they also forgot they were towing a boat, or it wouldn't have been so close.

I tried my best to get them to come back, boy would they have been surprised.

I ride in traffic some of the time, even if it is just fun rides, trying to get used to cars passing me. Actually I think that with a little planning you can stay out of the worst of it. Most every road that is heavily traveled inside a town has a street running the same direction that isn't. You have to make good plans to stay away from the worst of it. You probably would need to vary your schedule some. Go to work a little earlier and find a restaurant that had good coffee to wait till the doors opened maybe.

It takes a different mind set for me to ride in traffic. Wait till there are no cars in either direction before joining the flow of traffic. I think cars need a good distance to figure out what we are. Some never do of course.

I mostly get people pulling out of intersection in front of me. They don't realize how fast I am traveling, and that isn't fast at all.

last summer i pretty much parked my pickup and used the bike to go everywhere. it was my transportation to work and to the store unless picking up something big. i went from filling my truck up twice a week to once every 2 or 3 weeks. they definitely save a lot of money. make sure she has a good mirror and teach her to use them properly and to ride like she as at risk with every car out their. i think she will surprise you and do quite well and she will enjoy it as much as you. a motorized bike is a great form of transportation if you respect it

I'm glad to hear that so many of you are riding for economy and fun. When I ride to work I use the bike path on the river levy, and the rest on the side streets, there is one place I use the bike path on the side of the road, it is wide and clear, and the fun part is passing all the same cars each red light, if the timing is rite when the light turns green I fly by the ones in the front and get out there as far as I can. It is 9 mi. to work but in this city of over 1 million people it is crowded, and dangerous. I would give anything to live in a small town, I wonder what dirt looks like LOL. Have fun, Dave
PS: All parking around the Pike downtown at work, is 6 to 9 dollars a day minimum no free parking anywhere.

Parking a car can cost $22 per day here in Washington, DC. The bike gets to park for free...which adds up fast. Plus, traffic slugs along at such a slow pace it is actually quicker to motor bike in rather than drive or subway in.

You are the ideal motor biker then. Talk about saving money. Gas for the drive, gas for the idle time in traffic and parking lord your bike paid for itself in two weeks if you used it daily.
