Default Fiberglass Battery Box

Hi.

I'm growing tired of my old Schwinn bottle-cage/bungy-cord battery holder.

I want to make my own battery box, with a velcro secured door.

I see that lots of people are posting pictures of their headlights, tailwork, etc. What kind of kit should I buy if I wanted to make a lightweight custom box?

Will it be expensive? The new enclosure will only be about the size of a small recipee card box.

Thanks.

What do you mean what kit should you buy?

You can pick up a couple packages of fiberglass mat and cloth, and a small can of polyester resin at Home Depot for probably $20. Start with a custom-made cardboard box the size you want, and coat it with resin and fiberglass.

Fiberglass is really easy, just a little messy. I made a few custom pieces with it for my old Mustang a few years ago, but haven't really used the stuff recently.

You'll find plenty of resources on Google on how to work with 'glass.

Just cloth and resin........

I guess that I was just assuming that it was more complicated.

Thanks.

nope. Well, you'll want a couple disposable plastic containers for mixing, some stir sticks, paintbrushes, drop cloth, etc.

If you want a nice finish on it, you'll need some sandpaper and paint at a minimum. Bondo works nice for smoothing the surface prior to paint.
