Experiences with the float

Cruising along and the motor sounds like a diesel motor. I hit a bump and the motor purrs along beautifully then goes back to clunking along.

My thoughts are that the bump affects the float, what I need to know is if the float needs to go up or down.

Anyone experienced this before???
