| | Re: Disabling coaster brake The only times I have ever had the coaster brakes lock up, was when it was the only brake on the bike!
If you just add a good front brake to your bike & use that a little more than the coaster, you should be just fine! |

| | Re: Disabling coaster brake I run a coaster brake (not the only brake) and it works fine. Repack it with high-temp grease and make sure it is repacked every so often (as you would have to with any bearings) and it will be fine. |

| | Re: Disabling coaster brake I have coaster brakes on all my bikes and the only time ever had problems with them is when I try to lube them. I usually ruin them. I can do the bearing no sweat but if I fool around with the brakes its trashcan city for the wheel. |

| | Re: Disabling coaster brake Three washers did the trick for me. The washers are important. Bring an axle washer from your wheel to the hardware store and match it up. Try not to get them so thick so you can adjust them out. This will work for other brands too including the China Coasters. Suntour Freecoaster/Coaster brake

| | Re: Disabling coaster brake I just removed the 2 metal brake shoes on the coaster I used...put 1500-2000 miles on that wheel before the frame cracked and I had to change bikes
