Default CDI, welding and the motorized bicycle.

Question for the welders among us- Will it hurt the CDI if I weld on the bike as built.

The "borrowed bike's" pedal fell off today and the crank and pedal both are stripped. I was gonna hit it with the welder, but I wanted some input before I did anything.

Thanks.

Not sure. But for that exact reason I would isolate it.

Heck, if I gotta do that much to it, I'll jst swap out the crank for another I have here.

I thought I could get away with a 5 minute fix.

I didn't tell you NOT to try it. We (the readers) are curious if it would fry the CDI unit. (need a little popcorn eating guy to watch and wait)....

I'll do it and let you know....I have an extra CDI.
Empirical testing is always best!

I tacked my fenders and had no problem with the CDI....as long as you got a good ground on the welder I don't see a problem. If anything just disconnect the wiring.

G day. With any form of electric welding on the bike it would be necessary to disconnect the blue and black wires between the cdi unit and the motor to be safe .
