A Pleasant Surprise Package
About 3 months ago I contacted Worksman Bicycle in N.Y.
by telephone to purchase some 4 inch low rise handle bars from
them. They placed my call over to the parts sell department and
was told they discontued that style of handle bars. So I thanked
for their time and told them I will look elsewhere for those type of
handlebars.
Today the UPS truck pulled up to my house with this big box.
I was wondering who sent it to me and it was labled Worksman.
I opened the box and there was a 27 inch by 4 1/2 inch set of
handle bars ii the box. I look at the yellow billing sheet that I
found at the bottom of the box. On it it had sample with a hand
drawn handle bar.
It is nice to know that there is still some out their in this
web-site based world that has a memory and does not forget
the value of a customer.
Thanks Wayne

Re: A Pleasant Surprise Package
The more I hear of Workman Cycle the more this appears to be normal for them.
This is the way companies worked in our part of the world years ago. The customer was always first.
We talked about board track racer frames and Crazy Horse asked and to my surprised they listened. No "We have to have a minimum order of 500". Wayne Sosin just asked how many do you think will sell and told us though Crazy Horse, what was involved on thier end to make it worth thier while to set up.
This is in my books unheard of. When I needed parts made it took months of planning and back and forth over prices ect. Then there was a minimum order of a large amount.
Granted Workman hasn't said yes or given us a price but the simple fact that we weren't dismissed as a bunch of dreamers, to me says the world about Workman Cycles being a great company.

Re: A Pleasant Surprise Package
Honestly it probably wouldn't take much nowdays for Worksman to make a drop loop frame since all that needs to be changed is the downtube. A few minutes on a CAD machine programing the CnC tube bender and
maybe
the modification of the frame jig.
The difference is a company that makes thousands of bikes per day to maybe a few hundred, small changes aren't that big of a deal.
Awesome on the handlebars though!

Re: A Pleasant Surprise Package
Kevlarr, it isn't that simple. They are building a whole new bike.
They will have to build jigs to hold the frames in place as they are brazed.
The frame lenghts/hight are different. It's not a matter of taking the frames and building a down tube. They need to order different lengths of tube from thier standard ones.
Due to space concerns in the factory, they may have to find space to set up for a new line or stop a line and set up to build a new frame.
The new frame has to be tested and checked. This is why Workman is such a good quality bike.
Some one has to figure out the cost of all this before they start production. This then has to be balanced against the number built.

Re: A Pleasant Surprise Package
Here is another interesting fact about the package
I recieved from Worksman bicycle group. The package
left worksman factory on 09/11.... on the side of the box
has September 11 printed on it in big letters with black
magic marker. Never forget
