Last Friday I was doing my routine ride to Cherry Creek to do my usual buisness and on the way back my rear tire on Cronus blew. It's a super thick slime tube 40 psi of air inside a Kelvar tire and it exploded. It was so loud I actually blew a hole in my sidewall.
Now this isn't the first time this happened to me. First time I stuffed my rim full of grass and leaves and I limped my way home. The other times I had a spare tube and a pump and I was good to go.
This time I have actual tire damage and that super thick slime tube I'm still in awe that it exploded as loud as it did.
And I didn't want to damage my Wheelman wheel still straght and true btw.
So was it the slime?
Well yea. Heat builds up then it has no where to go then you get an explosion.
Or could it be my weight?
I had nothing to eat or drink that day and I was a good 7 miles away from home. Cherry Creek is a good 28 miles away one way so I was what I thought close to my house because when you ride man even though you're cruising along you really don't believe you're that far away.
Well it took four hours to get me home. I could have asked my wife to come get me but I thought that I got myself in this mess I'll handle it that's the way I am.
Half way thru my dehydration made my legs cramp up. Did I ask a neighbor if I can drink from a hose? No because I'm too stubborn to ask. It got so bad that I started up Cronus just so I didn't have to actually push her.
Well later that day I stepped on the scale.
290 pounds.
This is what's causing my blowouts. This is what's causing my NoMoreFlats tubes to not work for me because my rims cut right thru my sidewalls and into my tube.
Over the weekend I was honestly ready to just give it up man. All of it. I mean I'm just too fat to be riding these bicycles.
Then my wife tells me if I want she can start me up at Bally's.
It's 24 dollars a month no contract month to month no other fees except pay first and last month when you quit your membership ends the following month.
Sorry for spamming here but I am so determined to lose some weight here.
The Buggy Bike that 16T may just be the perfect gear I really don't know. When I ride it's slow but when my kid rides it rather picks up at least it's faster than when I ride it.
So from Friday until today is the longest stretch I have gone without riding since I built my beloved MOOP1.
Duane from Dax last time we met up told me a bit about the Atkins diet. I'm avoiding breads but taking it a step further. I have quit ciggaretts cold turkey two years ago without remorse because I had a quintuple bypass then cigs just didn't fly with me no more.
So I take that attitude when it comes to food. Food is for nourishment. It's not for munching on while watching TV not realizing you just ate a whole bag of potatoe chips until your hand finds nothing.
I just eat food really slow now. Drinking lots of water. And I've been working out at Bally's every day. They have a warm pool a hot tub and a steam and dry sauna too along with all that excersise equipment so it's pretty VIP.
Just like I quit smoking because I had a Bypass I'm quiting overeating and excersizing daily so I can ride again.
So Friday I weighed in at 290.
Today I weighed myself at the doctor's scale in the shower room over there.
277.
My goal is to lose 90 pounds by early next spring so I can be down to 200.
They say the first few pounds are the easiest then you kinda plateau out so I'm ready for that.
So today when I got back from a 4 hour workout I went in back of my house and looked at my bikes.
Cronus hasn't been touched since that flat tire. It's still there.
It's such a percect bike with over 6 thousand miles in her. I'll fix that flat. Soon.
The Buggy bike sans bed to reduce a little weight. I'll still get a 14T on there eventually.
I want to tackle that huge hill down the street.
Then there's MOOP2 my 2 stroke rebuilt with parts Dax had laying around gave me a good deal. I haven't ridden her in a while probably it's been over a month.
Tires are inflated. Why not.
Rolled it down my driveway. My clutch on my right hand and throttle on my left so it feels like an old Indian and I can reach for my choke more naturally. Half choke pulled the clutch and it starts right up. With the engine idiling with very little throttle I just run it like that. Boost Bottle is doing it's thing. It's just so smooth like this.
Then as I pass the neighbor trimming the hedges and waving a Hello at me I wave back then gun it.
Then Moop2 takes off.
Right there as I was cruising down the street at about 3/4 throttle doing about 20mph.
Right there.
I cried.
