Default piston & cylinder for dax 70cc (Howell?)

Hello all, last summer I purchased a 70cc motor kit from thatsdax.com. I've had endless troubles with it. After about 150 miles, the connecting rod bearing seized (with a 20:1 mixture). Since I purchased the motor and let it sit in a box for over a month before installing, he would not warranty the motor, so I purchased a new lower end for $50. Ran great for a short while again, until the air cleaner cover cracked, resulting in a wrecked cylinder and piston. I don't feel like spending another $70+ to get my fuel saving cycle on the road again. The cycle is fun, but not worth throwing lots of $$ at.

Does anyone have a blown motor with a useable piston & cylinder?

Thanks all,
Steve

Hi steve, sorry to here about your unusual problems. How is it that the air filter housing caused the engine to be ruined?

Hopefully someone there will be able to help. Feel free to post in other forums and ask questions or add experiences.

Bet he ran it with a broken air filter and sucked up enough sand to score the piston and walls,. or maybe not.

All I can figure is that a piece of the housing was sucked up into the cylinder. It made a snap, then had no compression. Upon removal, there are deep grooves in the cylinder, over 1mm deep. Thanks.

I assembled my throttle wrong and the c clip got sucked into the engine. fortunately it didn't do any damage, but I sure know i got lucky.

Yours was just fate mine was stupidity.
