No watts...The NuVinci is a CVT (continuously variable transmission) hub...that can provide multiple speeds or gearing for our bicycle engines (or simply for the rider alone or BOTH) .Here is a link if you'd like to know more... Fallbrook Technologies.
HI Cruiser,
Thanks....just trying to get some out there in the hands of the tinkerers.....most people balk at the prices of this great units....I figure If I lessen the prices (maybe even more in the future if all goes well and I can get some volume going) more people can tinker and get some gearing going on these bikes...Time will tell!

The advantages of the hub are that it is basically a heavy duty enclosed (less likely to suffer contamination from the elements when compared to an open geared system found on most bikes) continuously variable transmission (step less gearing...you have an infinite number of gears within its gear range...a wide range at that...350%) and its built beefy enough to handle engine power.
The hubs can provide gearing for the pedal aspect of bicycling, The engine aspect of bicycling, or BOTH with the aid of a custom made dual sprocket / freewheel combination (commercially available so you do not have to custom fab this piece.... it's about $30).
For engines that drive off the left side of the bike you will need to use a jack shaft to get the power over to the right side of the bike (the right side of the bike is the right side when sitting on the bike and looking forward....side where the normal sprockets are on a pedal bike)....Most engines (including the HT type engines) will need the jack shaft BUT the interesting part is I think the new Dax engine drives off the right side in its basic form thus eliminating the need for the jack shaft (I think in the Dax set up (for rear carrier mounting) there is a jack shaft but it is mainly to get the engine power from the right side to the left side of the bike.....It would be nice to fab up a center mount for this engine I think But truthfully I like the look of the HT type engine so would probably have to look into the jack shaft method).
The only other thing that may be beneficial if one plans to use this hub under engine power would be the addition of torsion bars for the rear axle (because f the hub design, power tends to twist the axle in the bike's dropouts.....while not typically a problem for human power some higher powered engines may tend to twist the axle in the bikes dropouts and if enough power is applied or if the dropouts are weak, the axle could twist and enlarge the dropouts.....The factory has special washers designed to prevent this but after market has even better torsion type bars available to help take care of this potential problem (I think it's about $30) .
I hope this helps to tell you more about this hub. If you have any further questions I will be glad to try to answer them.
Oh....I wasn't sure by what you meant when you asked "can they be altered?"
