Reread the the posts I answered your question on motorcycle lights which was an answer directed to you but I didn't put your name in the post. You did ask about the spec. on the bulb well thats a trade secret to find out you will have to buy a light or dig real deep as I posted my finding on the bulb to use and how to make the light before I was ever on this forum
My sayings about blowing smoke is not pointed at you but is at Mr.Harp and his remark about using the white wire to power up lights making the mag go bad. I don't know what type or size of lights he or the people that's had the problem been using but I can tell you I've yet to replace a mag/coil /cdi on a bike using the lighting system I came up with powered by the white wire. I build the light housing out of fiber glass and use off the shelf items to make the rest of the light so its not rocket science. Biggest problem is getting the right bulb combo that will work and be bright enough and not kill the engine or burn out the bulb. So I hope this will clear up any misunderstandings.

Norm, I like your idea about the lights. When I get some extra money I would like to try them out. Right now I'm "PO" and have nothing to spare. Still wondering where I'm going to get the money for my next batch of oil... lol.
Keep up the good work Norm. You have good ideas that I know everyone appreciates.

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work I purchased norms big light for my brother for his 16th birthday. I spent all morning and a few hours the other day mounting the light, resoldering some connections that broke, and making a nice harness for the new throttle/kill switch and headlight. I got everything connected and wrapped nicely using genuine Volkswagen/Audi connectors and wiring (Gotta love quality german products!). For the test. Started it and tested the kill switch: Check.
Ran it and idled it. Turned light on...stall. Ok, so maybe the idle is too low. I drove it down the block half throttle and turned the light on., It comes on nice and bright, but the engine stalls and only momentum from me rolling keeps the light on. Once I shut it down the engine starts.
I followed your instructions for reducing plug gap to .020". I also ran a thick wire from cdi to spark plug to eliminate any faulty connections in there. Tried a new CDI, reworked all my connections. NOTHING is working. The light kills the engine.
So...I tried it on my bike and it works GREAT!! Why would my brothers bike not handle this light? Any suggestions?

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work My guess is that some magnetos have two coils, some have a separate tap for the wire and some are just one winding....norm should straighten you out. |

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work mine has one large coil with two wires on either end, plus a ground wire. I tried a new spark plug, new spark wire, new cdi, new COIL, and a different bulb, nothing is working.
Maybe I have to modify the stock coil?

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work I did this a while back. It works great! I since cleaned up my wires. if I can remember I'll post some more pics. The switch is a micro switch from Radio Shack.

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work If anyone is having problems with it or if you don't have the white wire China engine you can also use a bicycle generator. I would make the pick up wheel bigger though so it would spin a bit less with our constant MB speeds.
I'm just saying cause Norm really nailed this design. It just looks so good to me and people have been asking about it.

| | Re: lights using the white wire that really work LF - I had the same thought during the rally over the weekend. Make a bigger wheel! We all remember how much drag those generators had on our bikes as kids......so don't make it too big! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
