I just got back from HF and the motor was a little bigger then I thought it would be. It would fit in frame with some work and certain frames that are big enough. I think a rear or rack mount would be the easest way to use this motor. Also the drive is on the right side which I did not like.

And of course they did not have any in stock...they offered the display model with a few bucks knocked off but it was assembeld very poorly and had a few missing things. I did not feel like driving across town to the other HF so I ended up not getting it. :(

It will be a little narrower once you strip it down. Muffler, gas tank, pull starter , etc.

Of course, if you're going rack mount you'll leave all that on, huh?

I had no luck finding one either. But I do have a raincheck for the coupon/engine. I even checked Pasadena, 85 miles one way.

I almost went back today to get the 6.5 HP. (I already have a hand truck.) But I decided against it. It's on sale till Dec. 1st for $129. Another Honda clone.

The blue clones are supposed to be much better than the black ones (Pep Boys? and in Canada Princess?).

Bummer fair. It is very disappointing when part of a new project does not fit the bill. It really could be done.

Ted, do you know yet how thin it can be made? Is there still hope? Your right about repositioning every thing. Should work is just the dang width stumbling block. So many engines for cheap and would work great except for that. With wider cranks or just removing them. That is always the kill-joy. I have a frame it could fit except for the width. Trying to figure out a way to either widen the spindle (right word?) wile leaving the chain wheel in place or make the cranks go out and then up and down. We need to form a commission to investigate the possibility of looking into the pros and cons of considering wider cranks.

LOL@me!!! I been scrutinizing the engine for I don't know how long and never noticed the drive shaft is on the right!!! No wonder Carol won't let me play with sharp objects or credit cards. (When she is out of the house I run with scissors. nananana)

But actually works out as now can use it on a pusher and use rear bike wheel and existing gears. Link is to a project I forgot all about. Instead of a 2 wheeled pusher, use only one. I am going to lower the center of gravity by placing the engine, 12 volt battery and alternator below the wheel axle. So the trailer/pusher wants to stay up right with out further balance. The hitch on the bike would be above the rear tire.

Keeps it more legal (3 wheels or less) and off the wall lookin'.

Well I figure there's ways of doing almost anything. Pablo's Shifter is supposed to get here today, too. I will need the motor and his kit in my hands to figure out where to fit the other jackshaft. Or go planetary.

I hate waiting. All projects now marked AWP.

The truck is supposed to come in about 2pm. I'll be there waiting.

Latest email from HF says their 6.5 HP is on sale for $110 through 30 Nov. If you're going pusher might as well be able to push. :)

Oh that motor would work....but if I added it to the rest of my projects I will not get anything done. It's a little more fab work then I was planning.

I do still want to use that motor and plan too. I would like to build a trike for my Dad so we can enjoy riding together. I built a MB for him years ago but he never used it. I think he's a little nervous with a regular bicycle....he's balance is not what it used to be. So I think a trike would give him the confidence to join me on my rides.

Fair, this looks like it was ment for folks who are not into the 2 wheelin' thing and that engine would be perfect. I wanted to build a trike for Carol's Mom untill I saw this. Would not be legal here due to 4 wheels and the CC. Last time she got pulled over, she drove all the way home and the cop had to follow her. I told her I wished I had cought it on cam so I could send video to "America's slowest high speed pursuits"
She is 83 and a PIP.

If you guys are thinking trikes you really need to check out Atomic Zombie. How about this for a chengine candidate?

Or this one?

How about a truck type?

These are all easily built from a couple of donor bikes and plans available at the site. No machining needed. Just welder, grinder, drill, etc.

Take a look at the site.

That guy is a master!
AZ didn't build those last two. Those trikes were made/adapted from his plans.

One or two of those guys are threading left hand threads on hubs. Die made from a left side BB nut. BB threads and freewheel threads are the same.

On his plans, he goes step by step, leading a beginner through making his own hubs, building wheels, etc. Nothing left out.

He makes it so easy your BIL could do it.

The truck at HF came in with one 2.5 HP engine on it. Guess who was waiting on it. :D

Had to get Josh (the manager) over to ring it up - the gal at the register didn't have the authority to override the expiration of the coupon.

I went ahead and got the two year warranty. $20 well spent. That's an over the counter new exchange if anything happens. HF actually has a very good replacement program. I always buy a warranty for anything of real value.

So with the coupon, the sale price and warranty I got out the door for $104 and change.

Hopefully I can mount it to something in the next day or two and check it out and then start stripping the stuff off.

I'm not worried about the right side drive. The double jackshaft that a friend of AussieJester came up with looks pretty good to me.

Besides, usually there is a hidden drive under the pull start. ;)

http://motorbicycling.com/f14/hello-znsaneryder-4724.html Posted this thread. Really enjoy his adaptations!
Yeah I think he probably used the coupon I posted.

I hope a bunch of people used it. If they didn't want people to use them they wouldn't put them out. Nashbar and Performance also have coupons and discount codes you enter at checkout. Lots of savings around. Not enough people know about them.

You know, we ought to entice the moderators to create a "coupon" forum in Swap and Shop. Hey Joe and David. How 'bout it?
