Newby from Iowa

Hello from the heart of Iowa...just starting to put my first 80 cc motor onto a old military looking army bike I got for j-variety. Hopefully I will keep it retro enough. Did run into a problem right out of the box and probably post it in general discussion. My motor seems to engaged all the time the clutch will not enable my bike to free wheel. Is there grease of penetrant I can put to free the clutch the little rod in side the chain plate is solid and does not push in at all after greasing it and taking out the ball bearing etc inside...Oh well any help would help!

It can be really difficult to adjust the clutch on a new engine so that the cable will pull the lever far enough. Does the engine stay engaged even when you move the lever manually?
