Default Aloooha!

Hoi! In researching my new interest, I found a couple of very informative forums. Joined one and just signed up for this one.

At present, I ride a 2 stroke 49cc 03 Geely to work and have a 4 stroke Dayang on the "workbench". Like many, commuting just got too expensive on gas. I only work 2 miles from home so didn't see any sense in using a car. Either ride a bike or a scooter. I just retired my 80's vintage Fuji hybrid and bought a Giant from a UH student going back home on the mainland. It's not good for motorizing, but my old Fuji frame is and will probably start rebuilding it soon. I just need to do more "homework" on engine and kit types that are available and affordable.

Cash is tight, so I was also tossing around the idea of retrofitting my frame with the Geely motor or a 4 stroke off my lawnmower. So far, experienced builders confirmed it would not be feasible or affordable. Looks like somekind of 2 stroke kit is going to be looked at.

Anyway, will be reading up on what y'all have to say about anything related to motorized bikes.

How much is gas in Hawaii.
I have a inspired bunch of local inventors who are trying to mod weed eater and lawn mower engines. The lawn mower engine shaft is easier if it is horizontal.
A rack mount friction drive seems easy and cheap.

Welcome.

Mahalo for the welcome, bruddahz!

The lawnmower engine I have is oriented vertically so I was told that it would be a bit difficult getting it to work in any configuration. It'd probably end up costing me as much or more than a new 2 stroke kit. Reckon I'll put it up for sale on Craigslist.

Ooops. Last time I bought gas, last week, it was at $3.96 for regular E10 unleaded. Yeah, all our gas has alcohol,
E10 or E15. Seems they kinda snuck that one in when we weren't looking. I probably won't realize some of the higher mileage, but should still be well over the 100 mpg mark.
