| | Traffic Light Triggering Device As some of you may know some traffic lights have sensor loops in the pavement that your vehicle triggers to change the cycle of the traffic light.
The other day I came to a three way stop and was going to make a left turn. The light was red, I stopped, waited for the light to turn green. The light never turned green! I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally I got pissed and decided to run the red light. Just then a car pulled up next to me, the light turned green and that is when it hit me that the lights run off some kind of trigger.
My motorized bike is to small to trigger the trafic light. So I started looking around and found this is nothing new. Motorcyclist have been dealing with this for years.
After doing a little research, here in Tucson we dont have to many of these traffic lights. But, the city say's they will replace all old traffic lights with these triggering lights in the next few years because they are to help the flow of traffic.
So I'm sure there are lot's of places with these triggering light's. So I found this online and thought I'd share it with you.
It's a Traffic Light Triggering Device. It's only 2" long, no wire's, no batteries, ect. You just stick it on. I found this one at JC Whitney. |

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device Waste of money. You could hook up a speaker magnet, or a big chunk of your favorite metal and save the money.
The thing that triggers the light is metal in proximity to the loop that's under ground.
You can try putting your kickstand down right at the "seam", preferably where the seam goes toward the side of the road.
In Ohio, that is considered a "malfunctioning traffic signal and is to be treated as a four way stop".

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device We used to have those kind of lights here and they were terrible with bikes and motorcycles. But our town has now gone to the camera activated lights. I think they see motion so they work on bikes just fine........................

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device I think they still have the coil in the pavement here. And the leading greens for left turns are the worst. I expect death and destruction at any minute. |

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device I'm going to try bikeguyjoe's ideal of using a magnet. That 2" strip they sell is a very powerful magnet. They say to keep it away from all electrical on your vehicle. Hopefully a regular magnet will be strong enough.
I'll let you know Deacon how well they work. If BikeGuyJoe's ideal does not work I will order the traffic light bevice. Thank's Guy's |

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device Can ya' put the magnet on your kickstand and then that way drop it right to the pavement? I've here that the magnet aspect of the strip is hoowie, and all kinds of other things, but mostly that the traffic light strips are just not proven to be any different than a bike without one.
Keep us posted fo' sho'.

| | Re: Traffic Light Triggering Device I will be trying out this weekend. I will mount some magnets somwhere underneath the frame as close to the pavement as possible. If that dont work I will try the kick stand with and without magnets. I'll let you know how it goes. |
