I'll be real honest with you guys... If I'm waiting too long at a traffic light, I'll just pedal left or right down the cross street a bit, then make a U turn & get back on my original path!! Of course I do look around for the police first!
But I truely believe that because what we are riding are bicycles, we get a little "slack" when it comes to traffic laws!
Just do it safe & be respectful of the police & the fact that a accident with a car will kill you!
Any thoughts??

That's exactly what I'm talking about!!!
You don't need a traffic light trigger!! think outside the box!

I have one turn that is at the side road to the mall. It has two left turn lanes and I try to ride when there is little traffic but there usually I have a lot around. I usually can wait for a little bit and get a car to pull behind me or in the other turn lane the one time I couldn't just ran it. I was going to say it must be broke officer it never changed for me. Oh yeah maybe the bike is too light in the butt... ya think???

Play dumb they don't know for sure that you are playing especially not at my age

A co-worker who lives in Ashtabula city (yes the famous bike part co. city) just got stopped on his bike because he ran a stop sign. That was a non motorized bike, I think he'd have gotten a ticket if it had a bicycle motor on it.

The cops don't seem to care that a lot of bikers ride thier "regular" bikes on the sidewalks here, but I sure wouldn't do it on my motorized bike.

I think I'm trying to say, some may get cut some slack on bicycles, but the engine always draws attention, good and bad.

Totally agree
but I try very hard not to stop on a hill with my bike. But But But I also try not to get run over. If I see a car in the same county on the road.

I yield.

I totally agree! The only time I ever ride on the sidewalk is with the engine off...
Whenever I do a questionable manuver, I look for the police & other motorists first, then I'll usually pedal it just to be sure!

My point was, that it makes no sense to sit & wait 10 minutes for a red light when a person on a ordinary bicycle could get away with just going around it.
(just pedal it like a bike while doing it)

My new thing to do whenever I see a cop now, is to pedal the bike a lot further to take off, or slow down enough to pedal it a bit , so they see that it's really just a bicycle...
So far it's been working because I haven't been stopped in a few weeks.
They see me pedaling it & just keep going.

Even when I'm going wide open, if I even THINK I see a roller, I pedal.

I have pedalled while the engine was obviously running past a few city police and had no problems.
When you are going slow enough, I think when they hear the engine pulsing with each pedal stroke they think you are pedalling a weird fake motorcycle toy thing, and feel embarassed....

Well I spoke to the police after cruising the speed limit (50 km/h) beside two police cars for 10 km's. I stopped for a coffee and asked a different officer than the ones i was riding with ( he was a superviser) if i can get in any trouble riding and he said nope i'll be perfectly fine as long as i have lights at night and a helmet all the time wooohooo.
