The Start of a Board Track Racer...

This is only my second post (my first was in the introduction thread).

I'm starting to design a street legal vintage style board track racer. Time is hard to come by these days and the wife thinks I'm insane to even start a project like this, but I don't care if it takes me three years to finish it. For me most of the fun is in the building, the riding is simply the cherry on top. I'm starting to nail down proportions in Solidworks so it looks the way I want prior to bending any pipe. This is the easy part for me. The pace of the build will be painfully slow, I'm sure.

I'd really like to use 28" tires - I simply prefer their proportions to a 55" wheelbase, but with all this talk of clinchers coming off the rims due to low pressure I'm a little... hesitant. We'll see.

I have a Lifan 153FMG 100cc engine on order. It's small and has plenty of fins - maybe not the most authentic look, but I'm sure it'll do. Electrics for lighting and a clutch are a nice bonus.

I'd like to offer thanks to Chuck (and all the rest of you) for your inspirational work - looking at your masterful frames stirred the creative juices in me - thanks :)

hi everybody,

this is my first post... my name is Diego and I live in Italy

I have a 1949 Ducati Cucciolo engine and I'll be building the rest of the bike... I'm still in the "thinking" stage, and I might be going for a board tracker look, or maybe something more "sedate", we'll see...

anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a period looking seat, like the one on this 1914 Pope...

thanks!

Post War frame + RAW kit

Hey here is a good basis for a build. a Huffy frame made sometime before the Korean War
therefore a 1940's-50's light weight but sturdy base for a pair of 26"X2.125 alloy rims, laced with stainless steel 12ga spoke's single speed coaster brake and fitted with white walled Balloon Tires, Full Fender's were an option in these Art Deco Examples of the Mid Centruy facination with Motor Bike's ...often a Mock Tank was affixed containing an electrical device to promote a Cool Fool's Fantasy
Huffy is the nick name for the "Dime Store" bike's that appeared after the second world war. During the war Huffman supplied our troops with great people powered transport, carrying the messages too private to transmit over open lines.. Schwinn's shared the Roads with Huffman's
I got me a nearly Extinct (Dial a Ride) HUFFMAN frame only, and it is quite clean. I shaved it with my pocket knife in about an hour. It had two coats of paint: cream for the base and red trim. .Purple over that, with some bullet hole decals randomly placed about the frame. it was"bare".Price $30.00
I sold my Murray cruiser last summer because I had no use for a one speed beach cruiser. I sold it for $30 as well
My present bike frames would loose value if I put RAW to them
NOISE and Black Smoke followed by flying gravel and Road Rashes are still some of the healthy Kicks we can freely do. I have some example photos of basic frame Huffman's alias Dayton, alias Firestone alias 10 or more versions thru the years. this style of frame had a Patent filed with the U.S )Pat. office Pre War
Perhaps I need to explore the serial number clearly readable ..it has an opposing number as well.
Huffman serial number only had two letters that could be traced "H" and "D" d for dayton , an early version of the huffman ,1938-1948 ,all other Huffman frames will display " H" so we know its a real live Huffman that all we know

This time I found what looked like an old Schwinn, ??? it was painted over with a tan housepaint, brown trim, red stripes. subtle but doable, **** it only cost $50. wheels and all. So I took the parts and Motor from "Ol' Dependable" and started transferring to the new frame, but shizit, the DOWN TUBE is too curvy as we all know(now).
Lucky I know how to weld a plate to a tube to the frame, and fix that easy. (and mind you this is b4 I found these forums)
So I'm riding to work and the engine feels really rough! B4 I know it the engine slaps my leg and I skid uncontrollably to a stop. The screws on my mounting plate to engine are gone! Lucky I'm on a bus route.

Now, I'm thinking do I really like these things or r they 2 much trouble for cheap transportation?
:-||
Should I abandon all hope of enjoying a reliable long haul Motor Bike? and forget riding down to S America?

First build, vintage style

After a little practice posting pictures, I think I finally have it figured out so I thought it's time to post a few pictures of what I've been up to.

OK, so my brother aka Sportscarpat tells me to give up on my Stingrays and go for the 26" bikes and I say 'no way'. Now mind you, I have well over a dozen Stingrays, last thing I need to do is start collecting cruisers. Then he tells me he's building a motor bike and I still don't take the bait. Then he shows his straightbar board tracker build, so I tell him 'maybe I'll do a build'. Then I buy a kinda rough, but original '49 Schwinn cruiser to serve as the basis of my build. Call me sentimental, but I just didn't have the heart to tear up an original paint vintage bike. But I do have this double straight bar frame in the shed.... and you know the rest.

After a month or so of tinkering around, here is what I came up with.

What do you think?

Has anyone seen this...found this site while looking for ideas for "tube" gas tanks (not sure if they have a real name"

lots of images of vintage MB "autocycles" on this site

Auto-cycles (http://www.autocycles.co.uk/index.htm)

Check the galleries under Autocycles

I would love a tapered tube tank like on the 172 - 1923 - Radio "top right on the home page."

Halcyon Cycle Works Leaf Sping Fork

Here are some nice clear photos of my latest Harley/Indian style leaf spring fork. These forks are fully functioning. The nice thing about this design is a rider has the ability to change the spring rate by adding or subtracting spring plates or changing the length of them.
