Aloha, i just got an old bike with a motor at a gaurage sale, its a lot of fun, i just purchased a new motor from kings motor, and now i am looking for a bike to put it on. I almost bought the specialized globe carmel cruiser, it looks like it will be perfect for getting around town, but it has a aluminum frame. Will it be ok? stong enough? i also want to put together a chopper bike, or some other cool bikes. if anyone has any recomendations. Thanks Chad .shft.dnut

I've joined the forum today, after being pestered by Tyrslider from Firebelly Cycles. I'm retired and a collector of odd mechanical contrivances(drive a Citroen and a Puch twingle motorcycle). Through my friend I've gotten some riding time on five different Motorbicycles. Absolutly thrilling....At only 35 miles per hour and I was scared to death. I'm now working with Firebelly Cycles to build one for me.
You might imagine I've made some peculiar requests(four inches of fork travel,5 speed tranny, four stroke engine,Worksman chassis)and it's coming along just fine. I hope to post tales of trips to ridicules destinations....Starting when the rain stops Regards Snackbar

I'm new and stopping in to say hi! I have led a sheltered life in regards to tools and creativity. always in the garage as a shop monkey but never was shown how or why. Well I'm an adult now and tired of staring lovingly at all the projects that I see online, and in books or magazines. One of the projects that I am hopping to be able to do in a few years is a custom designed recumbent bike. One that can be switched out from a crank and go system, to either a fuel based engine or better yet a steam boiler system (I can dream right?)

I live in southern Wyoming, but I never felt that the town was honestly large enough to own a car. 30 - 40 min drive across town max, Maybe in traffic. and everything is located on two thirds of one side of town.

.xx.
With my most recent auto problems rendering my car totaled, I remembered my old bike in the shed, but it needs some work. So looking in to alternate options A friend suggested this forum to me. I have to admit the cost of a simple build would be cheaper by far then any vehicle. What with fuel costs, and Insurance, and maintaining the dang thing. The only advantage I can see would be protection from the harsh winds and frigid winter season we have here.

So there you have it, and here I am!

Hi.

Last night while browsing I discovered engine kits for bikes, and whamo they're going to revolutionize my riding with the misses.

So here's the deal; the wife can't peddal up hill, she aint fat, she just hates peddling... so I got her a lightish bike with road tyres 16" frame. The bar that connects the steering column to the crank is oversized around *40mm*.

I basically see 2 types excluding electric.
1.- Those that site over the back wheel
2.- Those that go in the middle with a tank on the top

Now if it was for me I'd go with 2, but I already have a motorbike (BMW K1300R) so cycling is for excursive ... and the Mrs is a little fussy so I figured I'd sneak one on that could be removed quickly.

What do guys recommend for a woman who has the above bike?

Thanks folks!

Hi y'all, found your FANTASTIC site after being inspired by a motored schwinn style cruiser I saw a couple of weeks ago. But I also thought, hmmm needs a funkier frame and then I found the boardtrack racer! Some great builds here guys, real lookers.

I've just stripped down a donor, first time I've done that to a bike, gotta say it was a fun demolition! I've got a 2nd bike I'll strip down and then use both to start chopping, bending and welding. I think this project is going to take a while though as I'm a bit time defficient during this part of the year. Hafta learn how to do a nice weld on thin tubing so I'm expecting some practice time adding up too.

So Aussies, what are your recommendations for a 50cc engine? I had a look at the x-box site and was also impressed by rock solids HP engine - more $ but they do all the porting mods, better carby, higher-tensile bolts etc. Their standard 50cc is the same price as the x-box but they do the better bolts and spark plug & a coupla other things for that price, not bad. Anyone used their engine? They're in Adelaide. Any advice on engines available here in oz would be great as I'm a complete noob with 2-strokes!

Cheers,
Dave.

With a certain amount of nervousness and trepidation, I am thinking about fulfilling a fantasy dating back to the dinosaur age. My older brother got all the neat toys and I was given 78 rpm records. He got a basket of Whizzer parts which he managed to cobble together and mount on his knee-action Schwinn minus the heavy duty rear spokes recommended. I got piano and trumpet lessons. He was a dare devil, riding his whizzer at full throttle with no brakes; I was a reliable citizen and reasonably good student. But that Whizzer thrilled me to think of sitting on the saddle and not having to pedal, enjoying the breeze and the unique sound emanating from the Whizzer tailpipe.

Now I'm toying with the idea of building a motorized bike, wondering if two stroke or four makes more sense to start with, thinking about using one of the cheap mountain bikes gathering dust in the garage. I'm about to dig into the posts that may yield helpful shortcuts and how to avoid pitfalls. Should be fun.
