Hi Charles,

The Transportation Commission has rescheduled it's normal meeting date
due to the Veteran's Day Holiday from 11/11/08 to 11/18/08.  They meet
at 7:30 a.m.

I met with Police Dept and our City Attorney's Office to discuss your
questions regarding motorized bicycles.  We determined that motorized
bicycles are not covered under the motorized play vehicle code.  There
is a separate section in the city code under the "Bicycles" chapter that
deals with motorized bicycles:


Sec. 7-55.  Pedal bicycle with helper motors (mopeds).

         (a)     Upon a roadway where motor vehicles are permitted, a
person may drive a moped in any lane designated for use of bicycles.

         (b)     Pedal bicycles with helper motors shall be prohibited
on bicycle paths, trails and on sidewalks designated for use by
nonmotorized pedal bicycles, except when propelled by human power with
helper motor disengaged.=20

Under this section, motorized bicycles can use the on-street bike lanes
and may use sidewalks and paths without the motor engaged.
