My take is that old cruisers are teh win because the cruiser I have (MOOP2) I don't know what they did back in the days of real made in the USA bikes but I have bent many a wheel and this original bike with the original wheels still straight as an arrow.
Also on MOOP2 the frame is skinny. The front mount is mounted normally with no adapters and the rear mount is an extra mount with longer studs. I removed my studs and used longer bolts. Of course you won't just have an extra mount laying around just use a piece of wood with two holes to act as a spacer or stack up some washers it should work but I've never tried it.
