HEY graham. do u know witch chain idler you have? the ball bearing 1 or the cheaper "axel" one??
On my old bike the chain tentioner was wearing down but never enough to cause pastic to get in everything!.
Im not 100% sure wat you could do unless u got the cheaper one maby try and grease it up a little.
