Yes, it's definitely the figure-8 shaped gearbox that's bad. It's the one included in the kit called JL Hoot, so if you actually see the name JL Hoot, you'll be guaranteed to have a problem. In my case, the name never came up and it wasn't what I ordered, but it's what I got. Took me some checking around and investigating to figure out all this, but now I know.
