You can do it with a "step up" transformer 6v up 12v but amps are cut in half. You can do it with batteries wired in series again 1/2 the amps.
In old cars we used a "step down" resistor, so we could use a 12v battery and keep 6v starter and all bulbs. We just put in a 12v generator & voltage regulator
